WOW Air launches twice-weekly service from Gatwick Airport to Reykjavik

Gatwick announced a new WOW Air service offering passengers flights to Reykjavik twice-weekly, commencing last week. There are now three airlines offering services from Reykjavik to London: WOW, Iceland air and Iceland Express.

Last week Gatwick Airport formally welcomed and introduced WOW air with the launch of its new service Reykjavik – Gatwick.

Departing from Gatwick every Monday at 1315hrs, the flight will arrive in Reykjavik at 1525hrs with the return flight departing Reykjavik every Friday at 1620hrs and arriving in to Gatwick at 2020 hrs. The A320 aircraft can accommodate 168 passengers on its direct flight between the two cities.

WOW air operates from Gatwick SOUTH terminal.

In the summer season Gatwick will operate no less than eight flights to Reykjavik every week, and this wil increase to a total of 15 flights per week in peak season across three different carriers.

Matt Wood, Head of Airline Relations at Gatwick Airport said: “We are delighted to welcome WOW Air and its passengers to the airport today. Reykjavik saw a 12% increase in UK tourists between 2010-11, and we feel that by adding this twice-weekly service we are catering for our passengers who want to visit phenomena’s such as the Northern Lights. It also means that in peak season Gatwick will have three carriers that cater for up to 15 flights leaving for Reykjavik every week.”

Over the past three or four years Gatwick has been transforming its facilities through a £1.2 billion investment programme designed to compete for airlines and grow passenger numbers. The introduction of speedier check-in and security processes for passengers is another of the reasons why airlines such as Air China, Korean Air, Turkish Airlines and Vietnam Airlines have already chosen to operate from Gatwick this year alone.

Traditionally Gatwick passengers have faced an arduous trip to the airport by public transport or unreliable min-cab service, especially if travelling from central or North London. Airportdirect uses only well trained and highly professional drivers, with modern air-conditioned vehicles, making your airport transfer as stress free as possible, yet still at a value-for-money price.

When you arrange to be picked up at Gatwick by Airport direct’s Gatwick airport taxi service we use our well-proven system for airport collections to make your arrival stress free and ensure prompt departure from the terminal. Our call center staff monitor your flight progress online in real time, so that we are aware of your precise landing time, and we only then will instruct our driver to park up and go the meeting point at the terminal, the Information Desk in the arrivals hall. This ensures that when you arrive at the Airport Information Desk, our driver will be there waiting for you, carrying an Airport Direct name board with your name and flight details clearly displayed.
